It was called the "Lonesome Pine" and was located on the border of Gogebic and Iron county on the "Cloverland Trail". Stating "this great, dignified pine, alone, was spared in cutting the trail which links the two counties, and it stands today as a rugged sentry, guarding the pass, and is an impressive reminder of the type of forest giants which once covered the greater part of the northern Michigan region." From a 1920's tourist guide I have in my collection.
