Well, after a closer inspection I was surprised to find that a pair of Great Horned Owls had pirated the heron's nest and were raising their two owlets there. What a pleasant discovery. This is the 1st time I have seen nesting Owls.

You have captured on file an excellent story of great horned owl behavior, whereby they frequently appropriate the nests of other birds for their own use.

Thanks, again. You seem to have a lot of knowledge on the subject. Do you think the owls destroyed the other nests. I did not find documentation supporting the theory but it seems possible. I did see a heron fly up to the nest and attempt a landing. The owlets seemed to defend and the heron made a quick exit before I could get a photo.
