Considering that the Lake we call Superior is about 8-9000 years old, I'd say 8-9000 years !

I take that back Fred... if you look closely near the top of the photo you can see that the roots of the white pine tree on top of the rock are ATTACHED to the mainland. Considering this, I would assume that the main part of the rock was attached to the mainland when these roots grew (no way they could "jump" that distance) Using this as a guide then, the main part of the Chapel Rock must have been attached when this tree was growing for the last 300 or so years ....

Great observation about the roots, that tree is a survivor.

Funny story Fred... I didn't make the observation from the picture. We were up on the edge of the cliff thinking that we might actually climb over on the roots to get to the tree ... but thought better of it when seeing the drop below !!

and just revisited the area this week... it was attached in 1940 !! Nice picture of it at Miners Castle ... wow, how fast mother nature works.
