I have been on a mission for years to find a moose in the wilds of Michigan. I guess I better get over to Isle Royale to make it happen. He/she is really kind of cute in a strange sort of way. Thanks for sharing.

What a great shot of a moose. I walked by a moose cow twice before I even saw her. The only moose photo I have is of a moose "caboose" -- it won't make my gallery.

You have obviously been to Isle Royle a lot - I'm jealous!

Sorry to make you jealous Peter.. :-)! We manage to get to Isle Royale for at least a week every summer. This photo of a bull moose (he had short antlers, about 8-10") was taken at 6:00 a.m. with foggy conditions. My son (23 yrs. old) stepped out of the outhouse and there he was! He said he wasn't sure if he should get back in the outhouse or come down to the boat and tell me! Glad he chose the later!

Mary, Your great Isle Royale shots motivated me to track down and post some shots from a trip my wife and I took to Isle Royale back in 1982. This shot reminded me of an encounter that my we had with a cow and its calf at the eastern end of Chickenbone Lake. We were hiking back from fishing at the time and ended up pinned between the cow and the lake. It was a bit tense until we realized the calf had gotten on past. We weren't exactly sure what the cow was going to do next. By the way, you do an outstanding job of hosting the site during the week! Take care now!
